Fantastic news for San Francisco area travelers looking to get away during summer 2022. Alaska Airlines is offering direct service from San Francisco International airport to Zihuatanejo / Ixpata International airport starting June 4, 2022, with the last direct return on September 3, 2022. Fares as of this publication are at $600 round trip with restrictions or $1200 round trip business class. Flights have plenty of availability according to Alaska Airlines at this time. These tickets will not last long. This summer direct service is available only on Saturdays.
If you have already made summer travel plans don't worry, the direct flight on Saturday returns on October 8, 2022, thru May 20, 2023. On November 18, 2022, Alaska Airlines adds service on select weeks Friday, Sunday, and Monday in addition to the Saturday direct flights.
Flight time is about 4 hours to 4 and half hours depending on winds. Upon landing at Zihuatanejo / Ixtapa airport guests will be processed through immigration and customs. This process generally takes about 20 minutes. The best part is Mexico DOES NOT require Covid testing prior to entering Mexico! Yeah!!! This is highly recommended because most airlines no longer hand out tourist cards at the airport or on the flights.
