Margaritas Restaurant Bar – Like a Home-Cooked Breakfast in Zihuatanejo
If you're looking for an authentic Mexican breakfast away from the resorts, Margaritas Restaurant Bar has quickly become one of our favorite breakfast spots in Zihuatanejo. We've eaten here three times this week alone, and every visit has been consistently excellent.
This is the kind of neighborhood restaurant where locals and returning visitors gather each morning. The atmosphere is relaxed, the service is friendly, and the food tastes like it came straight from someone's home kitchen. Their slogan, "Como en Casa" ("Just Like Home"), is a fitting description.
What We Ordered
After three visits, we've sampled several dishes, and every one has been a winner.
My accidental discovery turned out to be my favorite. I ordered the French Toast Margaritas, expecting traditional French toast, and it arrived topped with fresh strawberries and bananas. It was so good that I ordered it again on our next visit.
I also tried the Chilaquiles in red sauce topped with two perfectly cooked sunny-side-up eggs. The red salsa had just the right amount of flavor without being overpowering, making it one of the better chilaquiles I've had in town.
Today's brunch was the red enchiladas filled with shredded chicken, topped with fresh avocado, lettuce, tomato, and crema. The enchiladas were tender, flavorful, and generously portioned.
Aaron, on the other hand, has found his favorite and refuses to branch out. Every visit he orders the Huevos Rancheros with sunny-side-up eggs, ranchero sauce, and pico de gallo. Considering he's ordered it three times in one week, I'd say that's a pretty solid endorsement.
The American coffee is also surprisingly good. I enjoy mine with a little cream and sugar, and it's consistently fresh and hot.
Great Food at Great Prices
One of the things we appreciate most is the value.
Our total breakfast for two, including coffee, generally comes to 400–450 pesos, making it one of the better breakfast values in Zihuatanejo considering the quality and portion sizes.
The menu offers everything from fresh fruit and pancakes to omelets, chilaquiles, enchiladas, molletes, huevos rancheros, fresh juices, and traditional Mexican breakfast specialties.
Good to Know
Margaritas is open for breakfast and lunch only, generally closing around 1:00–2:00 p.m. depending on the season. Breakfast is definitely the busiest time, with the morning rush tapering off around 10:30 a.m. before another smaller lunch crowd arrives.
We also learned that the restaurant can be reserved after hours for private events with advance booking.

It's only about a 12-minute taxi ride from the villas through downtown Zihuatanejo. It's the perfect way to start your morning before continuing on to Playa La Ropa, Las Gatas, or one of the other beautiful beaches nearby.
